  • In a blog post for the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), Singapore Management University head librarian Gulcin Cribb explores how modern academic libraries now serve as virtual village squares for their campuses. Titled “Great exaggerations! Death of Libraries,” Cribb’s post refutes the misconception that the shift from print to digital is a sign of the death of libraries, and is instead a natural evolution in focus that is increasing library usage.   • iConfernece 2017, the first iConference to be held in Asia, took place March 22-25, 2017, in Wuhan China. It was jointly presented by China’s Wuhan University and Korea’s Sungkyunkwan University. Click here for the conference summary, including links to proceedings.

  • The Future of Smart Cities: The benefits and challenges of using technology to transform cities into smart cities was the subject of a panel discussion held during Singapore’s Global Young Scientists Summit, held January 19 at Singapore Management University. The panel featured three recipients of the prestigious Turing Award, and was moderated by Steven Miller, vice provost and professor of information systems at SMU. Miller has summarized the results in an article titled “Country 2.0: Upgrading Cities with Smart Technology,” published in Asian Management Insights.
