iSchools Statement on Events in TurkeyThe iSchools Inc. (an international organization of 77 institutional members from five continents) supports the freedom of teaching, research, travel and speech for our university colleagues throughout the world. We regret recent developments in Turkey, particularly as they affect faculty and staff in higher education. According to a joint-statement from Berlin’s Universities published on July 22, 2016, “In the past few days, [Turkey’s] deans have been asked to resign and employees suspended from work. In addition, Turkey’s Higher Education Council has forbidden scientists to leave the country. Turkish researchers already working abroad have been ordered to return home.” The iSchools Organization supports academic freedom everywhere as essential to scientific inquiry and the advancement of knowledge.
