    The iSchool at Syracuse University seeks a highly motivated and creative Postdoctoral Scholar to assist with NSF-funded research project titled The Dynamics of Misinformation. Applicants must have demonstrable expertise in running large human-subject experiments using crowd-based platforms (e.g., Amazon’s Mechanical Turk) as well as a strong background in quantitative analytical methods and computational modeling. Candidates with an interest in complex systems theories and methods are especially welcome. Experience with probabilistic modeling (e.g., MCMC inference methods & probabilistic graphical models) is also desirable.

    Assistant Professor in Information Science: Applications are invited for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant level to begin fall 2022. Applicants must hold an earned doctoral degree in library and information science or a closely related field by the start date of employment; however, advanced ABDs may be considered with a set date of defense. Applicants must demonstrate a record of, or the potential for:

    1. Active engagement with the theories and methodologies currently informing the study of public libraries and librarianship
    2. Contributing instructional expertise to the school’s MLIS program; the Ph.D. program; and/or the information science undergraduate major and minor
    3. Mentoring graduate students
    4. Developing a program of research and scholarship in their specialty area

    The School is particularly interested in a candidate with a specialization in Public Librarianship and one or more of the following: Youth Services and programming; Adult services and programming;Community outreach and library services to under-served populations; Social justice issues; Intellectual Freedom; Emerging technologies; Leadership and advocacy.     Lecturer/Instructor in Data, Media, and Society: Candidtaes are invited for with a full-time Lecturer/Instructor in Data, Media, and Society with a demonstrated commitment to creating an inclusive learning and working environment. A suitable candidate must be able to teach courses online and in-person in programming, database, data analytics, and digital communications courses to undergraduate and graduate students. The start date for the position is August 2022. This is an annual 9-month appointment that may be renewed for two additional years, contingent upon satisfactory job performance and program needs.     This position focuses on health literacy and critical information literacy related to health and wellness. The position’s scholarship and engagement would relate to community education, particularly in traditionally underserved communities, and improving access to credible health information and critical evaluation of that information.

    The faculty member would also consult on systematic reviews and other evidence synthesis methods of the literature, which could include aggregating, analyzing, and visualizing health-related data of public health, policy, and equity topics.

    The program is looking for faculty who study social policy with a critical focus on inequality and power structures in society. The first position is for a scholar who employs applied data science and whose scholarship may be informed by or engage in critical data studies, critical race and digital studies, critical race and policy studies, new media studies, platform studies, critical HCI, or other areas of critical studies on data and computation, including those studying these issues from a global perspective. Applicants for this position should have a background in data science, econometrics, statistics, quantitative political science, computational social science, computational linguistics, human-computer interaction, societal computing, or other related areas. Of particular interest are scholars doing research in the areas of ethics in AI, data and tech policy, linked administrative data, civic tech or public interest tech, the intersections of data science with social work, politics, economics, public health, and/or criminal justice among others.
