    Systematic Approaches to Reducing Digital Harms: CLTC is searching for a Postdoctoral Scholar to assist in the development of an emerging research program focused on new ways to define, measure, and mitigate globally and culturally contextualized harms of digital products. The objective is to extend economic, cultural, and other conceptual understandings of how societies deal with physical waste streams (such as carbon) and other externalities, to the digital environment as a means of developing practical solutions that mitigate harms. The Postdoctoral Scholar will play a critical and active role in helping to shape this research agenda, and will assist in laying the research foundations for an interdisciplinary program.     Data Privacy: Public Policy and Practice: CLTC is searching for a Postdoctoral Scholar to assist in the development of an emerging research program focused on studying how firms, customers, citizens, and other relevant stakeholders have reacted to and been impacted by Europe’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) & California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA). The objective is to extend empirical understandings about reactions to and consequences of these laws. This includes assisting in the exploration of organizational structures; technical design and development practices; business practices; forms of stakeholder engagement; social norms and behaviors; and/or critically understanding the limits of these regulations and their relation to social inequalities. This work will help improve understanding about the promise and limitations of GDPR and CCPA/CPRA, and help create new tools, guidance, or recommendations for policymakers, organizations, and the public.     Reporting to the Dean of the School of Information, the Assistant Dean will lead a number of important functions, be a leader within the School of Information and work to ensure the success of the entire school, as well as the success of the Institute. Working collaboratively with the Dean, faculty, and staff, the Assistant Dean will take on and lead a number of important, internal-facing functions with the School. The Assistant Dean will serve as a resource for the school’s four areas of study while also working to bring them together. The desired start date for this position is July 1st, 2021.

    The Human Centered Design and Engineering (HCDE) department at the University of Washington, located in Seattle, is seeking to fill a full-time, two-year academic research position at the rank of post-doctoral scholar. The successful candidate will be able to make major contributions to the design of complex collaborative systems. This position is housed within the Center for Collaborative Systems for Safety, Security and Regional Resilience (CoSSaR). CoSSaR is a multi-disciplinary center where professionals from a wide range of entities (Federal, State, County, City, Tribal, International, Public and Private) team with university experts to align strategies, processes and investments in systems for security, safety and resilience.

    The successful candidate will work alongside academic, public and private sector professionals on a transformative national model deployment project. Entitled “A Virtual Coordination Center (VCC) for Multimodal Integrated Corridor Management,” the project budget of $8.5M supports numerous stakeholders from the public and private sectors. The VCC is a robust cloud-based environment that enables regional stakeholders to share a common working environment in support of coordinated mobility management. The VCC will gather data from Seattle-area transportation management agencies and share this data through a common dashboard so responders across all the agencies can see incidents as they happen, coordinate responses and distribute unified public messages.

    The PICCH project at the OsloMet iSchool invites applications to a position as senior researcher in interactive information retrieval with emphasis on user studies. The position is a 1-year research position. The position requires an immediate start, or at earliest possible convenience, preferable medio May. The senior researcher is to join a local research team consisting of the professors Pia Borlund and Nils Pharo as part of an international EU research project with additional partners from England, France, Portugal, and the Netherlands. The position is funded by the Research Council of Norway.

    The research project aims to identify key instances of colonial audio-visual heritage across three archives, draw a common map of shared representations connected with their respective imperial contexts, identify problematic visualisation and language and open up a dialogue between the archives and a variety of users, including archivists, researchers, filmmakers, and grassroots organisations. The digitised colonial audio-visual heritage is provided by three national archives: The Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision, the French Institut national de l’audiovisuel and Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford, UK. The task of the senior researcher is to conduct user studies on information needs and information searching of the three archives in question.
