Conference website: https://ischools.org/iconference Queries: staff@ischools-inc.org Please join us for the 18th annual iConference, presented by the iSchools organization and co-hosted by Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, Monash University and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. All information scholars, researchers, and practitioners are encouraged to make submissions, as defined below; affiliation with the iSchools is not required. About the 2023 Event Taking into account evolving world health and travel circumstances, our 2023 conference will consist of two parts: Virtual Program The main research program will be online and open to all. It will consist of the usual thought-provoking papers, posters, and colloquia / symposia that participants have come to expect from the iConference, as well as include a special track on Information Sustainability. In addition, while English remains the primary language for submissions, there will be special tracks for Chinese, Spanish, and Portuguese language papers. Physical Program The physical component will include a smaller gathering in Barcelona, Spain, for interactive and engagement sessions such as workshops & panels, business meetings, project related meetings and, last but not least, face to face networking. Full Research Papers Full Research Papersshould present new and original research results from empirical investigations and experiments, or from theory and model development. Accepted papers will be published in Springer’s Lecture Notes in Computer Science, and the best Full Research Paper receives The Lee Dirks Award with a prize of $1,000 (sponsored by Springer). Short Research Papers Short Research Papers explore new, provocative and cross-cutting themes. They might include critical literature reviews of an emerging topic, theory building that is in the early stages of development, or new analysis or methods applied to existing data. Accepted works are published in Springer’s Lecture Notes in Computer Science, and the best Short Research Paper receives a prize of $500. Posters Posters provide an opportunity for present and future thought-leaders to display and discuss their research with key members of the information field. Posters will be presented individually followed by a Q&A, in the same manner as research papers. The best poster receives a prize of $300. Information Sustainability Research Papers Information Sustainability Research Papers should address the management, curation, and preservation of analogue and / or digital information over time. Topics may include, for example, strategies and / or techniques for long-term storage and preservation, risk management, digital forensics, and disaster response and recovery. Submissions may address the sustainability of information at any stage, from the point of creation through sharing and reuse, and from any perspective, including the perspectives of people who create, manage, share, or use information. Chinese Papers The iConference 2023 will have a dedicated track for Chinese research papers. More information will follow soon. Spanish-Portuguese Papers This special track for 2023 is an excellent opportunity for scientists, scholars and professionals throughout the Iberosphere to present their latest research results, and to exchange views or experience in the information field: Library and Information Science, Data Science and related areas. We understand the Iberosphere in the broadest sense: countries where Portuguese or Spanish are official languages, irrespective of the continent. Also, participants from all over the world, knowledgeable in Portuguese or Spanish language, are welcome to submit. Workshops & Panels Workshop & Panels may build a new research community, strengthen an existing research community, or further advance a particular field. The iConference is open to panels, fishbowls, hackathons, and other events that invite commentary, are directly engaging, or seek participant input on ethical or policy issues. Workshops & Panels will be held physically on site in Barcelona, Spain. Networking The iConference is rising to the challenge of bringing networking and social interaction to its virtual venue. We seek proposals for a dedicated Networking track that aims at connecting participants from across the globe and create an environment for engagement and informal get-together. The Networking convenors have all the range and options available to them to use in a virtual environment. We welcome creative ideas, approaches and topics to bring together peers in a moderated networking session. Note that there will also be plenty of networking opportunities physically in Barcelona, Spain. Please do not submit any proposals for physical networking. Early Career Colloquium The Early Career Colloquium provides high-quality mentorship and networking opportunities for early career scholars and researchers (e.g., assistant professors, early career lecturers, post-docs, or others in pre-tenure positions). Early career scholars will share their research plans and aspirations with accomplished mentors that have expertise in various interdisciplinary areas represented within the iSchool community, as well as extensive experience in grant writing, promotion and/or tenure review, the peer-review process, teaching, and professional service. The European & African Early Career Colloquium session will take place physically in Barcelona, Spain, whereas the sessions in the Americas and Asia Pacific region will be virtual. Doctoral Colloquium In the Doctoral Colloquium sessions, selected doctoral students will present their work to peers and faculty members, and engage with one another in a setting that is relatively informal, but that allows for the fullest of intellectual interactions. The European & African Early Doctoral Colloquium session will take place physically in Barcelona, Spain, whereas the sessions in the Americas and Asia Pacific region will be virtual. Student Symposium The Student Symposium will be an opportunity for undergraduate and master’s students to present their research in a friendly setting of peers and invited senior researchers. Students will receive feedback on their work and they will have a chance to network with other conference participants and faculty members. All Student Symposium sessions will be virtual. Doctoral Dissertation Award The iSchools Doctoral Dissertation Award recognizes outstanding work in the information field. Nominations are solicited from all members of the iSchools organization and judged by a selection committee drawn from leading international schools.
