iSchools at ALA Annual Conference

 

The iSchools organization will be well represented at the 2017 ALA Annual Conference and Exhibition, with many members exhibiting and making presentations. The ALA Conference takes place June 22-27 in Chicago.

The School of Information Sciences at Illinois will be represented in booth #4742 in the Exhibit Hall. Alumni and students are invited to attend the Alumni Reception and LSAA Annual Meeting on Sunday, June 25, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Petterino’s, 150 N. Dearborn. The Syracuse University School of Information Studies will be represented in booth #4839. Syracuse will be participating in ALISE’s Library and Information Studies Cooperative Alumni Reunion on Sunday, June 25, 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Swissotel, Alpine II room. The Rutgers School of Information and Communication will have representatives on hand in booth #4942. Rutgers iSchool faculty will also be supporting the ALISE/LIS Cooperative Alumni Reunion on Sunday, June 25, 2017 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Swissotel Hotels & Resorts, Room Edelweiss. Thomas A Finholt named Dean of Michigans School of Information

 

Ann Arbor, Michigan (USA). – “Professor Thomas A. Finholt, a member of the University of Michigan faculty since 1991, has been appointed the Dean of the U-M School of Information. His five-year appointment was approved Thursday by the Board of Regents.
Finholt, a professor and associate dean in the School of Information, has served as interim dean since July 2015. He replaces Dean Jeffrey MacKie-Mason, who left the university to become the University of California Berkeley’s university librarian.
“Tom combines a clear vision for the School of Information with an impressive ability to build research and educational programs that are among the best in the field,” says Provost Martha E. Pollack. “He has been an effective leader in every position he has held. We are delighted he will serve as dean and confident that under his leadership the School will be a hub of innovative ideas, strong scholarship and engaged faculty and students.” ”

UMSI founding faculty member named interim dean

 

“At their July 16 meeting, the University of Michigan (USA) Board of Regents approved the recommendation of Provost Martha E. Pollack to appoint Thomas Finholt interim dean of the School of Information. Finholt will serve in this position during the search for a replacement for Dean Jeffrey MacKie Mason, who is leaving to become University Librarian and Chief Digital Scholarship Officer at the University of California, Berkeley. This appointment will be effective August 1, 2015 through June 30, 2016.”
